Description

This particular role will focus mainly on:
·

Methods and tools for the analysis of hydrodynamic bearings

·

Technology development (experimental and numerical) in the field of hydrodynamic bearings

·

Generation, update and maintenance of bearing database and bearing datasheets, PDM structuring linked to design department

·

Rotordynamic assessment of shaft trains (steam turbine, gas turbine, combined cycle)

Your tasks:
·

Calculation of the hydrodynamic characteristics of journal bearings. Assessment of the operational (static and dynamic) properties of hydrodynamic bearings.

·

Gather and maintain deep technical understanding and experience in CFD applications for the analysis of hydrodynamic bearings. This includes commercial tools (Ansys) and special bearing software (Alp3T)

·

Actively identify potential for improvement of the analysis and technology of hydrodynamic bearings to ensure a state of the art and precise assessment of shaft trains

·

Maintenance and update of the bearing database, to ensure consistent, validated and state of the art input data for rotordynamic calculations.

·

Maintenance and harmonization of bearing design and working instructions

·

Verification of bearing characteristics. Alignment with bearing suppliers. Initiate and develop methods for experimental verification (operational behavior and dynamic properties)

·

To be a point of contact, to act as a technical advisor and cover hydrodynamic bearing topics in TTTR and with partners in Alstom.

·

Representation of Alstom needs (in cooperation with product owner bearings) in external bearing communities and working groups (e.g. FVV). Follow and review available literature and publications.

·

To propose, plan and execute Core Technology projects in conjunction with the CT manager, improving the development of hydrodynamic bearings .

·

Execute rotordynamic assessments of Alstom shaft trains, covering standard assessment (e.g. unbalance response, stability, torsional dynamics, electrical faults) and journal bearing related calculations, like linear and nonlinear journal bearing characteristics, stability and losses, etc. To cover complete work packages of rotordynamic tasks, in the field of steam and gas turbine shaft lines

Qualifications

Your qualifications:
·

A good degree in Mechanical Engineering

·

A Masters degree in a relevant field of hydrodynamic journal bearings is an advantage

·

Very good understanding in basic theory in hydrodynamic fluid film theory and bearing concepts

·

Practical experience in Turbomachinery shaft lines is an advantage

·

Experience in numerical CFD tools

·

Experience in Rotordynamics and the impact of fluid film bearings on the dynamic characteristics

·

Able to work in a highly challenging and motivated environment

·

Able to drive technically challenging tasks

·

Good communication, team working and presentation skills in an international environment

·

Availability to travel on an occasional basis, mainly in Europe

·

Fluent in English

Desirable:
·

Project management experience

·

German language skills

·

Experience in dynamic testing, data analysis and parameter identification

Experience in Catia V5
